Now that the Culturelink Youth Summer Theatre program has come to a close, it is important to reflect on all the hard work that the students and staff put into the experience. This was not your traditional show, and after some obstacles, not only did the youth still manage to put on a memorable and moving performance, but they had a rewarding time during the process.
Our friend Isaac, who was initially brought on as the staff leader for this project had to step out in the final few weeks to attend to a health issue, however after some creative planning and with the help of the open hearts and minds of the students, Max Kelly, our resident Youth in Arts worker, was brought on the polish up the final show and support the performers. And with Nour also joining the team for the final push, we are so glad to say that the show surpassed all of our expectations.
We had two performances: On August 22nd we performed for a full house at the Learning Enrichment Foundation’s ‘Multicultural Arts Day’, which was followed by a question and answer period between the performers and the audience. The next day we performed here in our very own Child and Youth Center, to members of the Culturelink staff. Both shows were spot on, and after a thoughtful evaluation process, it seems that this could just be the start to some illustrious careers in the arts for some of the participants. Stay tuned!
