Be a Mentor to Newcomers to Canada
Our Community Connections Mentorship Program brings together established Canadians and newcomers as part of our efforts to create a truly multicultural, welcoming and thriving community.
Our volunteer mentors are essential in helping immigrants integrate into their new home, while our dynamic mentoring groups encourage peer support and motivation.
We find that our mentors benefit just as much from the experience too, with many feeling overwhelmingly positive about the opportunity to learn from others with different backgrounds and experiences.
As a mentor, you’ll have the chance to make a real difference to someone’s life and see the impact each of your interactions is having on their progress and success in their new community. It’s a great opportunity for personal growth and a truly rewarding experience.
What mentoring involves:
- A minimum of 35 hours over a 6 month period.
- Help your mentee develop knowledge and skills in one or more of the following areas:
- English communication
- Promoting their skills and finding a job
- Canadian life and customs
- Workplace culture
- Insights into a specific profession or trade
- Citizenship test preparation
- Civic engagement
- Presentation and public speaking skills
- Project management skills
Our program is dedicated to supporting you throughout your journey as a mentor, so we’ll give you the training and tools you need to succeed.
You’ll also work closely with a mentorship coordinator who can answer your questions, help you identify your mentee’s needs and provide support around creating and implementing work plans.
