MOtIVAtE

MOtIVAtE is an initiative aimed at introducing newcomer mothers to the democratic process by engaging them in a non-partisan public campaign at Ontario’s largest school board. Through a series of activities, participants will gain knowledge and tools to participate in the democratic proceedings and become leaders and systemic change makers in their communities.

Our project focuses on three core activities:

  1. Training: Participants will receive a comprehensive seven-week training program facilitated by esteemed partners such as the Institute for Change Leadership. Modules will cover building relationships, anti-racism and gender-based analysis (GBA plus), and storytelling. By the end of the training, participants will be able to use the knowledge and skills learnt to advocate for systemic change.

  2. Community Mobilization: Building on the training, the participants will choose a policy/practice to advocate for. Together, we will develop a social media and in-person campaign that advocates for policy adopting that consider the immigrant mothers’ challenges in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).

  3. Knowledge Sharing: To capture the learnings from this project, mothers will be encouraged to share their perspectives and personal experiences through digital documentation. Participants will share and highlight their experiences in advocating for systemic change.

Join us in becoming the next changemakers and building the bridge between newcomer mothers and the school board system.
