Once again this year, we had the great fortune of offering newcomer students at Jarvis Collegiate Institute a two-month class in theatre led by the wonderful artists from Soulpepper Theatre Company. As in previous years, enrollment in the popular classes has been strong thanks to word of mouth among students at Jarvis Collegiate Institute about how great the classes have been in the past.

After two months of classes, our young newcomer students generally emerge with an ability to improvise and perform in front of groups. In May, during their last class, students were even able to lead the group in theatre activities and games. Most importantly, these classes give our newcomer youth an invaluable sense of self-confidence and leadership skills.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the artists of Soulpepper Theatre Company for so generously offering their expertise, time and talent to this important program. It is truly wonderful to watch them connect with the students and help these young people realize their inner potential.
